Job Title: Echo Technologist Lead

Job Summary:

As an Echo Technologist Lead, you will be responsible for leading a team of technologists in the Echo / Imaging departments, ensuring the highest level of patient care and diagnostic accuracy. You will work closely with cardiologists and other medical staff to develop and implement exam protocols, and provide training and education to technical, nursing, and medical staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform Echocardiograms, Stress Echo's, and assist in TEE's exams on patients
  • Coordinate staff, train new staff/students, and maintain and update protocols and new techniques
  • Participate in committees, utilize quality control and quality assurance techniques to ensure image quality is maintained
  • Work collaboratively with the supervisor to ensure all exams are completed and financial requirements and support documentation are appropriately processed
  • Manage the coordination of the department workflow, maintain and update protocol techniques as needed, and interact closely with the Medical Director
  • Actively participate with patient testing, performing routine, nonroutine, urgent, and emergent patient requests
  • Communicate with Patient Transportation, Nursing Units, Physician Offices, and other diagnostic areas to ensure that patients receive their diagnostic procedures in a smooth, efficient, and safe manner
  • Provide patient orientation, procedure explanation, and education, pre and post diagnostic care to completion of test, to ensure patient safety
  • Review physician requests to verify the type of diagnostic test requested and that the indication for the procedure is consistent
  • Consult with the Cardiologist and/or patient physician for verification of protocol selection
  • Enter diagnostic examination charges and codes into the system according to specific departmental protocols
  • Provide specific diagnostic test information to the patient, ensuring that the patient is aware of the diagnostic test involvement to ensure patient safety
  • Obtain necessary written consent for any specific procedures
  • Obtain patient history, perform physical assessment and tests, and position the patient for the examination according to specific departmental procedural protocols
  • Select the specific equipment presets and modify the settings to ensure that optimal image is obtained
  • Assume responsibility for the safety, mental, and physical comfort of patients while they are in the technologist's care
  • Use independent judgment during the exam to differentiate between normal and pathological findings
  • Obtain assistance with any diagnostic procedures which are not completed, or if there are any patient care issues
  • Complete processing diagnostic CD's, including supporting documentation of logs, demographic, and diagnostic information required for departmental, hospital, and patient record documentation
  • Notify referring physician, Medical Director, and medical staff with any diagnostic findings, which warrant communication
  • Assist with departmental quality monitoring, participate in new equipment evaluation, coordinate departmental physician training with staff, and provide training and education to technical, nursing, and medical staff
  • Coordinate departmental research activities, ensuring protocol criteria are met, and serve as a resource person for clinical research, technical lectures, and symposiums
  • Provide competent leadership on a daily basis and in the absence of Manager of Operations, be responsible for staff and coordination of services

Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree or one year certificate as Registry in Cardiac Sonography
  • Registered by American Diagnostic Registry for Medical Sonographers (ARDMS); must be registered as RDCS or Registered by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as RCS or American Registry for Radiologic Technologist (ARRT), Advanced Registry in either CT, MR, IR
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience
