Job Title: Nurse Practitioner

Wellpath is seeking a skilled Nurse Practitioner to join our team at the Green River Correctional Complex. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality medical services to inmates, working under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site physicians.

Job Summary:

The Nurse Practitioner will provide a full range of medical services, including chronic care clinics, sick call, and infirmary rounds. You will ensure that progress note documentation is in SOAP format, problem-oriented, and corresponds to the therapeutic order. Additionally, you will adhere to established formularies for therapeutic regimens and respond to codes or health emergencies within standard guidelines.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct on-site chronic care clinics and sick call as established by the Site Medical Director, Health Services Administrator, or designee.
  • Conduct infirmary rounds as established by the Site Medical Director, Health Services Administrator, or designee, and record encounters in the patient's progress notes.
  • Ensure progress note documentation is in SOAP format, problem-oriented, and corresponds to the therapeutic order.
  • Adhere to established formularies for therapeutic regimens.
  • Respond to codes or health emergencies within standard guidelines.
  • Make pertinent observations and draw logical conclusions, which validate the need for non-formulary drugs.
  • Utilize available in-house resource personnel for treatment or resolution of identified problems.
  • Provide emergency treatment on-site and respond appropriately in urgent or emergency situations.
  • Support standards of medical care through adherence to existing policies and procedures.
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for individual judgments and actions.
  • Use Universal or Standard Precautions at all times.
  • Prescribe a planned regimen of total patient care, which is adequate, problem-oriented, and appropriate to the needs of the patient.
  • Keep patient information confidential and respect patient rights to privacy.
Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred.
  • Must have the patience and tact to deal with the inmate population and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment.
  • Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage.
  • Must have and maintain current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment.
  • Must have and maintain current CPR certification.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance.
  • Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations.
  • Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.
  • Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.
  • Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.
