Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Breast Imaging Specialist plays a crucial role in identifying breast tissue irregularities through the execution of mammographic imaging procedures, facilitating diagnoses, and conducting basic x-ray examinations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Welcomes patients by verifying their identity, reviewing imaging requests, checking for any specific instructions, and confirming the expected services with them.
  • Performs mammography by appropriately positioning patients, adjusting compression devices, and providing clear instructions.
  • Ensures the quality and production of mammograms by adhering to established protocols; developing mammograms; analyzing results; making necessary adjustments for optimal outcomes; redoing mammograms when necessary; and sending completed studies to the radiologist for evaluation.
  • Must possess familiarity and experience with electronic medical records, documenting patient mammography services by accurately completing patient charts.
  • Responsible for compliance with state and federal regulations regarding safety and quality assurance.
  • Guarantees adherence to MQSA, as well as federal, state, and local guidelines.
  • Regularly reviews image quality and examination protocols.
  • Maintains precise departmental records, reports, and files for multiple clinics.
  • Ensures the availability of mammography supplies and patient drapes by managing inventory and placing orders as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • AAS in Radiology and ARRT certification in both Radiology and Mammography.
  • Certification from SCRQSA (South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association).
  • A minimum of five years of clinical experience.
  • Training in 2D/3D Mammography, with Hologic qualification preferred.
  • Current BLS-CPR certification is mandatory.
