POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the role involves executing a range of professional duties to support the City’s planning initiatives, both current and advanced. Responsibilities include preparing comprehensive reports and analyses for the Community Development Department, conducting in-depth research on planning and zoning issues, and providing essential information to the public regarding planning regulations and programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct a variety of professional tasks in alignment with the City’s planning objectives.
- Respond to inquiries from the public and governmental organizations through various communication channels.
- Assist developers, property owners, and the public with understanding laws, regulations, and policies related to planning.
- Prepare staff analyses for projects presented to the Planning Commission and City Council.
- Conduct planning and land use surveys, and perform research as necessary.
- Engage with the public on planning regulations, including development subdivisions and condominium ordinances.
- Prepare initial environmental assessments and manage grant applications.
- Coordinate the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and serve as a liaison to various agencies.
- Undertake special projects as assigned and perform related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Familiarity with community planning operations, urban planning principles, and applicable State and Federal laws. Proficient in statistical and research methodologies for data analysis. Competence in modern office practices and effective report preparation.
Education and Experience: A degree in planning, public administration, or a related field from an accredited institution, combined with two years of relevant professional experience in the planning sector. A Master’s degree in Planning or Public Administration is preferred.
Licenses/Certificates: A valid Class C California Driver's License with a safe driving record is required and must be maintained throughout employment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The role is primarily office-based, with occasional travel to various sites. Employees may work in varying weather conditions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to perform tasks that require prolonged periods of sitting or standing, occasional bending, and lifting of light to moderate weights. Proficient use of office equipment and computers is necessary.
VISION AND HEARING: Normal vision and hearing capabilities are required, with or without correction.
