Lead Oncology Registered Nurse

Under general supervision, the incumbent will deliver advanced nursing care, along with patient and staff education in a Hematology-Oncology clinic environment. The role also encompasses participation in committees, monitoring quality assurance, and managing statistical data.
The incumbent may provide clinical and functional oversight in the absence of the Clinical Manager when necessary.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate and facilitate comprehensive care delivery to patients and their families in the Hematology and Oncology sectors.
- Assess and identify the nursing care requirements of patients; plan, implement, and evaluate appropriate interventions.
- Develop and execute educational programs for patients and their families.
- Assist in establishing care standards and monitor the performance of nursing staff in the designated area.
- Engage in the formulation of clinic policies, procedures, and protocols for patient care.
- Participate in nursing committee activities.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge in Hematology/Oncology and apply this knowledge in patient care.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
These are the minimum requirements for the examination process and do not guarantee placement on an eligible list.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Requires three (3) years of full-time professional registered nursing experience, including two (2) years in an outpatient, Ambulatory Care, or medical clinic setting.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess and maintain a current, valid Registered Nurse license issued by the State of California.
- Must have a current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification by the first day of employment.
- Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certification and Oncology Nurse Certification within one (1) year of hire.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Oncology Nurse Certification
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Comprehensive knowledge of: principles, practices, and techniques used in Oncology and Infusion nursing care at a specialty level.
Working knowledge of: patient and staff educational methodologies; quality assurance processes; nursing committee activities; and clinic administrative functions.
Ability to: provide guidance and serve as a resource to others; complete required continuing education programs; perform effectively in emergency and/or high-pressure situations; maintain confidentiality of patient/client information; and foster positive working relationships with medical staff, the public, patients, and hospital administration; communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
