POSITION SUMMARY
The Youth Development Professional (YDP) plays a crucial role within our program team. This position is ideal for those seeking to embark on a career focused on youth engagement in educational, athletic, or artistic environments. The YDP will primarily work with youth during program hours and will also undertake various responsibilities as outlined below. This role will operate under the guidance of the Club Director.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain a calendar of programs that aligns with the organization’s mission and objectives.
- Create a weekly and monthly schedule of activities, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date.
- Encourage member participation in diverse program activities while providing constructive feedback to enhance their skills.
- Foster an engaging environment that motivates youth to participate actively.
- Facilitate the registration of new members and assist in their orientation process.
- Serve as a role model and provide guidance to club members.
- Implement and manage programs and services for drop-in members effectively.
- Oversee activities to ensure member safety and maintain facility standards.
- Continuously evaluate programs to ensure they meet the evolving needs of members.
- Participate in special events and programs as needed.
- Collaborate with team members to deliver high-quality programs, assisting wherever necessary.
RELATIONSHIPS
- Internal: Engage in daily interactions with club staff, members, and supervisors to share information and address any issues.
- External: Maintain communication with community groups, schools, and parents to assist in resolving concerns.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- A minimum of 2 years of combined experience and/or formal training is preferred.
- Understanding of youth development principles.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to inspire youth and manage behavioral challenges.
- Capability to design and implement engaging programs for youth.
- Skill in organizing and supervising members in a safe environment.
- Proficient in public interactions.
- Familiarity with computer systems and data entry.
- Experience in delivering science and technology programs for various age groups.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
This role involves regular interaction with club staff, members, and external organizations to plan and deliver programs. The position is primarily office-based, with potential travel for special events and field trips. Flexibility to work afternoon and evening hours is essential, and occasional weekend work may be required. The role may involve physical activities, including standing for extended periods and lifting objects over 25 lbs.
