Job Overview:
The Operating Room Technician plays a crucial role in the surgical team, providing essential support under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. This position involves preparing surgical patients and ensuring a sterile environment, adhering to the highest standards of care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of patients for surgical procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment is ready and available.
- Follow established protocols for surgical interventions, collaborating closely with surgeons and anesthesiologists.
- Maintain aseptic techniques throughout the surgical process, actively participating in the surgical team's efforts.
- Conduct accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments as per hospital policy.
- Monitor and report any unsafe conditions or concerns during procedures.
- Engage in continuous learning and share knowledge with peers to enhance surgical practices.
- Support the surgical team by anticipating needs for instruments and supplies during operations.
- Maintain inventory and assist in the management of surgical supplies, ensuring proper storage and expiration checks.
- Guide and mentor support staff, contributing to their training and development.
Qualifications:
- Minimum one year of experience in an operating room setting preferred, or a recent graduate from an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate effective communication and organizational skills.
