Position Overview: The Nurse Practitioner in Endocrinology plays a vital role in delivering comprehensive clinical evaluations and treatments essential for diagnosing and managing patients with endocrine disorders. This position serves as a crucial resource for the multidisciplinary patient care team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver both direct and indirect patient care, ensuring optimal patient safety through proactive collaboration with healthcare team members.
- Conduct thorough patient evaluations, gathering complete health histories from patients or their families. Perform extensive assessments, including physical examinations and developmental evaluations.
- Provide medical guidance and crisis intervention as necessary, whether in person or via telephone, particularly for diabetes management.
- Establish medical diagnoses for common acute or chronic stable health issues and prescribe medications in collaboration with a licensed physician.
- Order necessary laboratory tests, imaging studies, or other diagnostic procedures as appropriate.
- Implement therapeutic measures tailored to specific health conditions and provide anticipatory guidance. Refer patients to licensed physicians or other healthcare professionals as needed.
- Coordinate care with specialty clinics, physicians, and relevant agencies on behalf of patients. Maintain and review patient records, and may track and report patient data to assess clinical outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program.
- Minimum of two years of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN); Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required, preferably from CCNE accredited institutions.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to provide care for adult patients across a tertiary care hospital setting.
- Active involvement in diabetes management and related initiatives as needed.
