Position Summary
The Automotive Technician is responsible for diagnosing and repairing diesel tractors, trailers, and other wheeled vehicles. This role involves a variety of tasks aimed at ensuring vehicle safety and performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Assess and diagnose vehicle issues, executing repairs following industry standards.
2. Collaborate with the Terminal Manager and/or Supervisor on complex repairs.
3. Uphold CEMEX safety policies and regulations among all mechanics, including lockout/tagout procedures and hazard assessments.
4. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations in all shop activities.
5. Conduct routine maintenance as outlined in preventive maintenance checklists.
6. Plan and execute standard work procedures.
7. Utilize hydraulic jacks or hoists to access mechanical components for inspection and repair.
Technical Skills
1. Remove and replace components such as alternators, starters, water pumps, and more.
2. Disassemble parts, inspect for wear, and identify failure causes.
3. Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems and components.
4. Inspect and replace various vehicle parts including clutches, seals, and brake linings.
5. Overhaul and rebuild serviceable components as needed.
6. Perform electrical diagnostics and repairs according to industry standards.
7. Engage in cutting and welding tasks using gas and electric equipment.
Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
2. Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience or a combination of education and training.
3. Valid Driver's License; Class A or Class B CDL preferred or the ability to obtain within the evaluation period.
4. Forklift certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
5. TWIC certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
Working Conditions
This position requires sitting for extended periods, with occasional walking or standing. Physical demands include lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing, with the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
Safety Commitment
All employees are expected to adhere to CEMEX, OSHA, and MSHA regulations at all times, wearing appropriate safety equipment while on site.
