Special Education Compliance Specialist Lead

We are seeking a Special Education Compliance Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding special education services.
About the Job:
This position will rotate between three schools in the Detroit Metropolitan Area, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. The salary range is $40.00 - $55,000 per hour, with the possibility of transitioning to a salaried employee. The position can be part-time or full-time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide district-level support to IEP teams in coordinating school-based implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Serve as a liaison for the completion and implementation of IEPs, due process rights of Special Education students, and related procedures.
- Analyze data to determine trends and address areas for improvement in written processes, procedures, and training.
- Review IEP team decisions and historical district trends to ensure alignment with best practices for FAPE in the least restrictive environment.
- Monitor meetings addressing students with or suspected of having a disability to ensure adherence to compliance-related mandates and policies.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure required compliance at building levels.
- Coach Special Education Teachers to improve their skills and knowledge.
- Stay up-to-date on federal, state, and local compliance updates affecting special education services.
- Generate regular compliance reports for the Director of Special Education or designee.
- Perform other tasks and assume additional responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
- A master's degree in Special Education or a related field of study.
- A valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a special education endorsement or certification/licensure.
- At least five years of successful teaching experience, including three years in special education.
- A solid understanding of the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and how they are implemented within a local school district.
- A heightened understanding of procedural safeguards, district procedures, due process, and state complaint procedures.
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient problem-solving skills with a focus on positive resolutions.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of the Special Education Department.
