About the Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join WSP's Virginia Bridge Inspection Group as a Senior Bridge Inspection Engineer. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in assisting the Mid-Atlantic District's bridge inspection TEC Lead with business development and winning bridge inspection and repair work for VDOT and other transportation agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, schedule, and perform VDOT bridge inspections in accordance with the requirements of specific Bridge Owners, but in all cases, in compliance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and the AASHTO Manual for Condition Evaluation of Bridges.
  • Liaison with client field/facility staff, lead/assist with communicating critical condition findings.
  • Direct other field team members.
  • Enforce safe operations in field.
  • Create or assist with creating and/or reviewing all required inspection reports.
  • Ensure technical compliance with all applicable standards and specifications.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Support the Mid-Atlantic District and National Bridge Inspection group in performing bridge, ancillary, culvert inspections in different jurisdictions as required.
  • Support in the preparation of proposals, tasks, reports, and other documents.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • 10+ years of experience in bridge inspection (NBIS) with VDOT and other transportation clients.
  • Project Manager/Team Leader in VA and other states as necessary.
  • Extensive successful management of bridge inspection projects for VDOT.
  • Attendance of NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges course.
  • Attendance of additional NHI courses (e.g., NSTM, LRFR, and Scour related).
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Physically capable of performing continuous field work including working at heights and in close quarters, climbing, carrying ladders and gear, working in adverse weather conditions, etc.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to think critically and solve problems.
  • Ability to work well in team-oriented structure.
  • Valid, unrestricted driver's license.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and direct the work of team members.
  • Cognizant of time and budget management.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.
