Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct care to students with injuries and acute illnesses, utilizing the nursing process to ensure optimal health outcomes.
  • Administer medications and health care treatments as prescribed, and provide emergency care for ill and injured students.
  • Instruct and direct school staff on implementing emergency action plans for students with chronic health concerns.
  • Comply with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations, delivering care in an ethical and confidential manner that is culturally sensitive.
  • Promote a safe and orderly school environment, ensuring appropriate exclusion for infectious illnesses and reporting communicable diseases as required by law.
Requirements
  • Successful completion of an approved nursing program with a valid degree or diploma.
  • Hold and maintain a valid license from the Maryland State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with two years of experience.
  • Registered nurses and Licensed practical nurses must observe the rules and regulations of the Maryland Nurse Practice Act.
  • Hold and maintain current CPR certification by the American Heart Association (BLS for Health Care Providers) or the American Red Cross (CPR for the Professional Rescuer).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with students, school staff, and families/caregivers.
  • Proficient in the use of computer technology.
