As a Senior Associate Application Engineer, you will develop and deploy dependable software systems at scale. By collaborating with teams across the enterprise, you will create and sustain full-stack solutions that align with our business objectives. Utilizing your comprehensive understanding of all products and their interrelations, you will design sophisticated solutions and strategize the future of our broader technical ecosystem. By independently innovating and promoting best practices, you will tackle complex challenges and guide the team in implementing solutions from inception to deployment. You will actively manage and escalate risks and customer-impacting issues in your daily responsibilities.
As an Engineer on the Digital Payments team, your role will focus on modernizing digital payment systems aimed at reducing fraud and safeguarding every participant within the payment ecosystem, including Discover's customers. You will develop and release robust software systems at scale. By partnering with teams across the organization, you will create and maintain full-stack solutions that meet our business requirements. Your holistic perspective on all products and their interactions will enable you to design elegant solutions and plan the future state of our larger technical ecosystem. By independently innovating and advocating for best practices, you will resolve complex issues and guide the team in implementing solutions from inception to production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently complete most features and user stories, including test cases and automation.
- Enhance your knowledge of advanced software engineering practices such as domain-driven design, test-driven development, operations, and security.
- Contribute to agile ceremonies, lead demonstrations and presentations, assist new engineers in learning established norms, and engage in technology communities.
- Participate in system design decisions and understand how these choices affect the product as a whole.
- Learn to support production systems and comprehend how observed events and failures impact the product.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 1+ years of experience in Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related area.
- Internal applicants only: must have a technical proficiency rating of advanced beginner on the Dreyfus engineering scale.
Preferred Qualifications:
Additional Skills That Would Be Beneficial:
- Familiarity with the technical stack for this group, which includes Java, AWS, Kubernetes, Spring, Postgres, Oracle, and TomCat.
- Hands-on experience in a cloud-based environment, particularly AWS.
- Experience with container implementation, ideally using Docker, as well as CI/CD pipeline experience.
Compensation:
The base salary for this position typically ranges between $71,500.00 to $121,000. Additional incentives may be offered as part of a competitive total compensation package. Factors such as geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may influence the pay for this position.
