Job Description:

**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Unit Director to lead our Residential Services team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations, programming, and activities of our residential units, ensuring the highest level of quality care and support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate residential services in assigned units to ensure active treatment, health, safety, and pursuit of personal goals for individuals residing in the unit.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans and long-term goals for assigned units, ensuring alignment with departmental objectives and national best practices.
  • Lead and manage a team of supervisory staff, providing guidance, coaching, and training to ensure effective performance and high-quality care.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized support plans, ensuring seamless integration of services and effective communication.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, departmental policies, and procedures, including the Department of Justice Settlement Agreement.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and written manuals to ensure consistency and quality in residential services.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to staff on conflict resolution techniques, personnel issues, and crisis management.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, staff development plans, and activities to improve employee retention and reduce turnover.
  • Review and approve required reports, analyze staffing reports, and take action to improve areas such as turnover, retention, and overtime.
  • Collaborate with other department heads to review the quality of work for clinicians and staff, ensuring effective performance and high-quality care.
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings, work groups, and activities related to residential services, including the Critical Incident Team and Incident Management Review Team.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Texas Administrative Code, HHSC policies and procedures, and the Department of Justice Settlement Agreement.
  • Experience in ensuring the provision of quality services, treatment, training, and supports for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
  • Knowledge of behavior support plans, skill acquisition plans, and psychiatric support plans.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, train, schedule, supervise, and prioritize the work of others.
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems, make effective decisions, and manage time with considerable latitude for independent judgment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in spoken and written word, to a wide variety of audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field, such as social work, psychology, or special education.
  • Experience in residential services, including management and leadership roles.
  • Knowledge of ICF/IID standards and applicable rules and laws.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adapt to changing populations and needs, and develop and implement strategies to meet those needs.
