We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Maintenance Mechanic Trainee to join our team at the City of Port St. Lucie, FL. As a Maintenance Mechanic Trainee, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on water treatment facilities, including lubricating, adjusting, and maintaining shop, field, and plant equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Perform basic preventive and corrective maintenance by troubleshooting problems, making repairs, checking for proper operation, and communicating with other divisions.
- Lubricate, adjust, and maintain shop, field, and plant equipment, including inspection, cleaning, and repairing wells, pipes, pumps, compressors, valves, chemical feed, and processing equipment.
- Learn and perform basic installs, inspections, and repairs piping systems of galvanized, PVC, stainless steel, and copper tubing, including identifying types of piping, fittings, and basic valves, cutting and threading pipe, and making minor modifications to existing piping systems.
- Perform basic to routine maintenance and repairs to engines, such as oil changes and belts, and replace filters.
- Regular and punctual attendance.
- Learn and perform uses of aerial lift operation (cranes, boom lifts, bucket trucks) equipment.
- Follow proper safety practices, precautions, and procedures, including confined space entry, storing, handling, and transporting hazardous chemicals, and follow proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) procedures.
- Follow the safe and proper use of various hand, power tools, and test instruments.
- Maintain accurate records, perform computer data entry, and purchase materials and supplies.
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma supplemented by specialized mechanical training required.
- Experience in the Utility preventative maintenance division preferred.
- Possession of valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of a clean driving record required.
- Florida Commercial Driver License (CDL)-B Driver's License Permit required to be obtained within six (6) months of date of hire.
- Florida CDL-B Driver's License required to be obtained within eighteen (18) months of date of hire.
- 12 paid holidays per year.
- Vacation Leave: 10-25 days depending on years of service.

- Sick Time: 8-16 hours per month depending on employee status.
