Aquatic Safety Professional

As a leading non-profit organization in education, wellness, and community development, the YMCA of Metro Atlanta is seeking a highly skilled Aquatic Safety Professional to join our team. Our mission is to positively impact lives and communities across the state, and we're looking for a dedicated individual to help us achieve this goal.

Job Summary

The Aquatic Safety Professional will be responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. This includes creating a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, while promoting safety in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain active surveillance of the pool area
  • Know and review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately
  • Know, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic areas
  • Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed
  • Perform chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and take appropriate action
Requirements
  • Minimum age of 16
  • Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent
  • Ability to respond in a timely manner to safety and emergency situations
  • Exemplify YMCA ideals and leadership qualities
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills and personal commitment to service and hospitality
Work Environment & Physical Demands

The Aquatic Safety Professional will be required to physically perform all skills required of a Lifeguard, including hearing noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, remaining alert with no lapses of consciousness, and being able to see and observe all areas of responsibility.

Employment Requirements
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check, including a criminal record check, drug screening, and motor vehicle record (MVR) check, according to company policy
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship
