Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with procedural setup and patient preparedness for specific procedures, including positioning, prepping, and draping.
  • Support the surgeon in skin closure, subcutaneous closure, and ties, as well as facia closure and ties, closure and ties of peritoneum, tying deep vessels, incising tissue, and performing hemostatic techniques.
  • Maintain a safe peri-operative environment by observing aseptic techniques in preparing for and assisting with procedures.
  • Participate in patient transport and room turnover as needed to facilitate utilization of services in a cost-effective manner.
  • Circulate cases and function as a Registered Nurse as needed.
  • Provide education, mentorship, and resource support to patients and colleagues.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from a surgical first assistant program is required.
  • Valid RN License from Virginia or reciprocal compact state is required.
  • Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) certification is required.
  • AHA BLS Provider CPR is required at hire.
  • BSN is preferred, and all Registered Nurses with an Associate's Degree in Nursing will be required to obtain their BSN within five years of hire.
  • Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) certification is preferred.
