Job Summary

This is a challenging role that oversees a team of manual workers in the construction, solid waste, and maintenance of City buildings, streets, grounds, facilities, parks, and urban forestry operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate the work of a crew of unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled manual workers performing various maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Conduct regular and periodic performance reviews of subordinates and provide training and instruction as needed.
  • Initiate workplace accident paperwork and conduct investigations as required.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs to City trash receptacles and direct the removal of litter and illegal dumps from City properties and right-of-ways.
  • Assure and inspect project work for compliance with plans, performance standards, and safety regulations.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment and consumables and order supplies as needed.
  • Supervise crews supporting City special events and programs, including setup, maintenance, and cleanup.
  • Oversee planting, propagation, maintenance, and care of lawns, shrubbery, trees, and flowers.
  • Participate in prescribed burn teams and plant pest control teams.
  • Supervise maintenance and cleaning of buildings and athletic fields.
  • Estimate and order materials for assigned maintenance projects and track labor and materials.
  • Prepare detailed records and reports in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and three years of experience in general maintenance and repair of buildings, streets, grounds, right-of-ways, and/or facilities, including one year of supervisory experience.
  • Valid Driver License required upon appointment and at all times while employed in this classification.
  • Commercial Driver License may be required at the time of appointment.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain certifications for prescribed fire courses and natural resource management maintenance.
Working Conditions

Work may require performing tasks in and around heavy traffic, exposure to hazardous conditions, prolonged noise levels, and noxious chemicals. Work may also require performance of tasks outdoors under varying climactic conditions.
