Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to join our team at Smithfield Foods. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our production lines and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including PMs and repairs, to ensure equipment is in good working order.
  • Assist other teams as needed, including production and quality.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Safety Procedures at all times.
  • Setup and inspect machinery and equipment to ensure proper function.
  • Diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions.
  • Clean and lubricate machinery and equipment as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational diploma or technical degree preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience in industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing environment; or 4 years' direct experience in an industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing maintenance environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of team personnel and outside contractors.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, genie lift, or scissor lift or other powered industrial trucks (PIT).
  • Ability to read and execute work orders, write daily reports, and translate equipment manuals.
Work Environment

The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat, working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.

Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds; regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds utilizing the buddy system or specifically designed lifting devices.

Specific vision includes close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
