Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Marine Biologist to join our team at the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement. As a key member of our Environmental Compliance team, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our operations comply with all relevant laws and regulations related to marine biology and ecology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert advice on marine biology and ecology to inform our environmental compliance decisions.
  • Lead our efforts in consultations and coordination with other government agencies, such as BOEM, USFWS, and NMFS, to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Oversee compliance monitoring and verification of operational reports and industry's Post Activity Submittals (PAS) related to marine biology and ecology.
  • Participate in field efforts related to ecology, including data collection, mitigation, stipulation, and Notice to Lessees and Operators (NTL) enforcement.
  • Brief and defend our technical programs, policies, and conclusions to other government agencies, industry leads, and private groups as the technical authority on marine ecology.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines.
  • At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service.
  • Demonstrated experience in performing environmental monitoring of systems, processes, and equipment to meet the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSA) standards, the National Marine Sanctuaries Act (NMSA) standards, Executive Order Coral Reef Protection standards, OCS Lands Act (OCSLA) regulations, Marine Debris reduction requirements, and/or similar mitigation measures applied to an authorized activity.
