Ultrasound Technician Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Diagnostic Imaging Specialist - Ultrasound to join our team at UNC Health Care. This role is responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound procedures, interpreting ultrasound examinations, and maintaining equipment in a clean and orderly fashion.

About the Role:

  • Perform a variety of diagnostic ultrasound procedures, including OB/GYN, vascular, abdomen, and small body parts.
  • Interpret ultrasound examinations and provide accurate impressions.
  • Maintain image management equipment, utilize PACS systems, and complete routine comments.
  • Evaluate previous ultrasounds for comparison prior to performing new examinations.

Responsibilities:

  1. Procedure Preparation: Ensure safe and appropriate procedure environments, perform equipment checks, transducer checks, and QA of equipment. Maintain supply inventory and keep work areas clean and organized.
  2. Patient Evaluation: Evaluate requisitions and patient information to determine appropriateness of procedures. Collaborate with fellow sonographers and clerical staff to plan workdays and patient flow.
  3. Diagnostic Procedures: Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures, assess patient history, document anatomy and pathology, and produce documentation of procedure findings.
  4. Education and Training: Participate in regularly scheduled departmental conferences, maintain RDMS certification, and engage in self-reading and education to remain up-to-date on new developments in ultrasound technology.

Requirements:

  • RDMS registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or eligibility to register within one year from date of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • No prior experience required.
