Position Overview
To deliver medical expertise and oversight of care provided through the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System. The physician is expected to demonstrate the highest level of proficiency to enhance the quality of care. Role Responsibilities

Essential Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited medical institution

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Valid state medical license
  • Current Federal Drug Enforcement Agency license
  • Staff privileges at all relevant hospitals
  • Board certified or eligible
  • Basic or Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate actively in hospital multidisciplinary rounds for all patients under the hospitalist service and, when appropriate, during co-management or consultative roles.
  • Respond to Code Blue and Rapid Response situations in accordance with campus protocols.
  • Provide admission services for the Emergency Department, incoming transfer patients, and direct or urgent admissions as per the hospital's on-call schedule and patient assignment guidelines.
  • Offer co-management services for subspecialty care within the hospitalist Provider's scope and privileges.
  • Deliver consultative services to Medical Staff members within the hospitalist Provider's scope and privileges.
  • Accept care transfers from other clinical services when appropriate, ensuring effective communication regarding the patient's clinical status.
  • Provide transfer center call for incoming non-critical medical patients as per the hospital's on-call schedule.
  • Conduct timely evaluations of patients admitted to the hospital in accordance with Medical Executive Committee bylaws.
  • Adhere to hospital policies, guidelines, and bylaws.
  • Facilitate physician-to-physician sign-out for patients transitioning to post-acute facilities.
  • Ensure internal sign-out at care transitions meets established standards.
  • Provide 72-hour narcotic prescriptions for patients transitioning to skilled nursing facilities when clinically appropriate.
  • Engage in nursing and staff education when requested by leadership.
  • Respond to clinical inquiries promptly.
  • Document History and Physicals within 12 hours.
  • Document Discharge Summaries within 48 hours of discharge orders.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the regulatory environment concerning patient status consistent with national guidelines.
  • Provide post-discharge coverage for home health orders for up to 2 weeks or until patients have seen their primary care physicians.
  • Encourage in-network resource utilization for continuity of care unless specified otherwise by the patient or if expertise is unavailable in the system.
  • Respond promptly to pages and calls from nursing staff unless it jeopardizes patient safety or experience.
  • In emergencies or disasters, provide additional coverage as per campus protocols.
  • Engage in continuing education activities to maintain or enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Maintain ACLS certification.
  • Direct patient care throughout the healthcare system via Consult Orders.
  • Provide consultation services in collaboration with attending or primary care providers.
  • Communicate effectively with attending physicians, nurses, families, and other treatment team members to establish appropriate patient care plans.
  • Ensure compliance with best practices and care directives.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Memorial Hermann Physicians, Risk Managers, and Case Managers to resolve clinical, administrative, or technical issues.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to compliance privacy policies.
  • Ensure safe care for patients, staff, and visitors; comply with all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards while managing budgetary constraints, including time management, supply management, productivity, and service quality.
  • Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; support department-based goals contributing to organizational success; serve as a mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
