Empowering Deaf Students through Seamless Communication

Soliant Education is seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to join our team in the Hope Ranch, CA area. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a vital role in creating a bridge for communication and ensuring equitable access to education for a deaf or hard-of-hearing student as they navigate the transition to high school.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-on-one sign language interpreting services for a deaf or hard-of-hearing student in a high school setting.
  • Facilitate clear and accurate communication between the student, teachers, peers, and other school staff in all classroom environments and activities.
  • Utilize various interpreting techniques, including simultaneous interpreting and signed English, to ensure the student has full access to instruction and participation in all aspects of high school life.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student information and adhere to professional ethical codes.
  • Collaborate with teachers and specialists to develop effective communication strategies that support the student's academic and social-emotional needs at the high school level.
  • Advocate for the student's full inclusion and participation in the classroom, school activities, and the broader high school community.
  • Stay current on best practices in sign language interpreting for educational settings, including knowledge of deaf culture and adolescent development.
Requirements:
  • National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Certification.
  • Prior experience working as a sign language interpreter in an educational setting, preferably with high school students, is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of adolescent development and educational methodologies relevant to the high school age range.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with students, parents, teachers, and other school staff.
  • Ability to adapt communication styles and interpreting techniques to meet the specific needs of a teenage student and the demands of a high school curriculum.
  • A passion for promoting deaf culture and ensuring equal access to education for all students in a supportive school environment.
