Job Description:

The Commonwealth of Virginia is dedicated to providing exceptional services to its residents and businesses. As a part of this commitment, we are seeking a part-time Installation and Repair Technician (IRT) who will report directly to the Supervisor of Desktop Services. This role involves performing on-site and in-shop inspections, installations, testing, and repairs of telecommunications and microcomputer devices as well as peripheral equipment to support a diverse network of voice, video, and data systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver professional and courteous end-user support to staff, faculty, and students.
  • Maintain the security and confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Assist in ensuring desktop standardization and performance.
  • Utilize diagnostic and data recovery software for installation and configuration of software packages and operating systems.
  • Conduct setup and maintenance of network interface systems.
  • Test wiring and equipment for various services including voice, data, and video.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Proficient knowledge of personal computers, operating systems, and desktop applications.
  • Basic understanding of local area networks and telecommunications protocols.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair desktop computers and peripherals.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with diverse users.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment.
