Railroad Derailment Specialist

This is an entry-level position that involves assisting in clearing railroad derailments by lifting and moving derailed rail cars and locomotives.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in construction, landscaping, or farming, and be able to use or learn to use various tools and equipment.

Responsibilities include:

• Providing ground support for operations
• Driving tractor-trailer or escort vehicles
• Carrying, handling, and detaching/attaching heavy steel chains, blocks, and steel cables
• Climbing on and crawling under derailed railroad cars and other equipment
• Cleaning, maintaining, and setting up equipment requiring use of small and large tools
• Operating cutting torch and welding equipment
• Utilizing various hand and power tools
• Lifting 150 lbs. max with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects up to 50 lbs.
• Working at elevated heights on railroad cars; bridges, over water, or in water
• Learning and complying with company policies and procedures, and safety rules
• Learning hazardous materials handling and precautions
• Maintaining required equipment service records
• Assuring safekeeping and proper usage of company tools
• Performing other incidental and related duties as required

Requirements:

• High School graduate or equivalent
• Must be able to qualify for a Commercial Driver License

Knowledge/Skills:

• Experience working in construction, landscaping, farming, or other outdoor occupations is preferred
• Must be able to use or learn to use tools and equipment, such as but not limited to the following: pulleys, vises, hand and power tools, skates/rail skids, mechanic rollers, acetylene tanks, wooden blocks, steel collars/shackles, steel hooks, welding equipment, grinders, hydraulic jacks, steel chains and cable, portable lights, come-alongs, tractors, forklifts, self-rigger/block truck, semi-truck and trailer, flatbed truck, pickup truck, wheel barrow, pumps and generator
