About the Role

Erie Neighborhood House is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Lead Infant Teacher to join our team. As a key member of our Early Childhood Education program, you will play a vital role in providing a nurturing and stimulating environment for infants and toddlers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement the Early Head Start/Prevention Initiative curriculum, ensuring a developmentally appropriate and engaging learning experience for our youngest learners.
  • Collaborate with the Site Director to provide discipline and feedback performance reviews for the Assistant Teacher, promoting a culture of growth and development.
  • Meet monthly with the Site Director for supervision and support, ensuring alignment with program goals and objectives.
  • Act as a team member in creating an environment where children can learn and thrive, fostering a sense of community and cooperation.
  • Develop and implement group lesson plans, incorporating diverse teaching strategies and materials to meet the unique needs of each child.
  • Provide supervision and support to Assistant Toddler Teachers, promoting a culture of mutual respect and open communication.
  • Serve as the primary caregiver for an assigned group of children, ensuring their physical, emotional, and cognitive needs are met.
  • Monitor children at all times using active supervision, maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
  • Record observations, write individual child lesson plans, and maintain up-to-date documentation in COPA, Teaching Strategies GOLD, and child education files.
  • Implement screenings, assessments, and reporting of outcomes for assigned children, ensuring accurate and timely data collection.
  • Communicate with parents/families and report child progress through scheduled parent-teacher conferences and home visits.
  • Initiate referrals for children with suspected special needs, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure comprehensive support.
  • Take proper care of classroom equipment and supplies, reporting all repairs as needed and maintaining an inventory.
  • Research new ideas, methods, resources, and materials for lesson plans, staying up-to-date with best practices in early childhood education.
  • Promote an atmosphere of teamwork, where staff, parents, and children interact positively with each other.
  • Participate in required agency meetings and in-service trainings, ensuring ongoing professional development and growth.
  • Maintain Gateways registry membership, adhering to state licensing requirements and performance standards.
  • Participate in 20 hours of professional development each program year, enhancing knowledge and skills in early childhood education.
  • Maintain 5 hours of Gateways-approved training each program year, ensuring compliance with state regulations.
  • Responsible for ensuring the program complies with Erie, the Board of Education, and all State licensing requirements and performance standards, including promoting the health and safety of all children, following sanitation procedures and universal precautions, completing a bi-annual physical exam, complying with the Confidentiality and Child Abuse and Neglect Act as a mandated reporter, as well as the American with Disabilities Act and Erie's Inclusion Policy.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field.
  • Must obtain a Level 4 Gateway Credential by 2024.
  • 2-3 years of experience working in a nursery or licensed daycare.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit on the floor for extended periods.
  • Experience in caring for infants and toddlers preferred.
  • Physical constraints required include, but are not limited to, the ability to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds, including evacuation of the building during emergencies.
  • Demonstrates self-motivation, self-direction, follows directions, makes good judgments, creativity, reliability, and dependability.
  • Exhibits sincere interest in working with children and is knowledgeable regarding children's development and growth.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Upon offer of employment, must complete all forms related to hiring, including Erie's application and employment status and 3 letters of recommendation. In addition, must complete all DCFS forms, including a Criminal Background Check, Fingerprinting, and a Child Abuse and Neglect Background Check.

  • Competitive salary of $39,000-$40,000 per year, based on experience.
