A Laboratory Technician - Medical Services Specialist is a crucial role at Geisinger, where you'll support our mission of providing exceptional patient care through innovative, efficient, and high-quality laboratory services.

You'll be responsible for collecting blood specimens from patients in various settings, including our inpatient department. This requires strong interpersonal communication skills to explain the blood drawing process and show a comforting attitude toward patients.

Your duties will include performing venipunctures and skin punctures according to Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines, ensuring adequate and correct collection requirements, and accurately identifying specimens.

• Perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens according to Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines
• Exhibit knowledge of adequate and correct collection requirements
• Perform accessioning procedures appropriately and accurately to ensure positive identification of specimens
• Recognize and resolve discrepancies as necessary
• Evaluate specimen suitability and acceptability
• Resolve or refer problems as necessary

We're looking for candidates with a High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) and a minimum of 1 year of related work experience. Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is also required.

Salary: $45,000 - $60,000 per year, commensurate with experience
