Position Overview:

Under the guidance of the Group Fitness Coordinator, the Group Fitness Instructor plays a vital role in delivering engaging group exercise sessions tailored to various fitness levels and abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Arrive 15 minutes prior to class to set up equipment and music.
  2. Demonstrate proper exercise techniques and provide a diverse range of movements to suit participants' varying fitness levels.
  3. Ensure that class instruction aligns with current industry standards and is compliant with professional fitness certification organizations.
  4. Maintain knowledge of class formats and adhere to safety protocols.
  5. Inspect facilities and equipment for safety; report and rectify any hazardous conditions.
  6. Promptly report any incidents to the Group Fitness Coordinator and Fitness Center Manager, completing necessary documentation in a timely manner.
  7. Document attendance for each class and maintain accurate records.
  8. Conduct assigned classes and arrange for substitutes as needed.
  9. Keep group fitness instructor and CPR/AED certifications up to date and provide necessary documentation.
  10. Promote the fitness program positively and enthusiastically.
  11. Exemplify customer service standards set by the park district.
  12. Adopt a proactive approach to safety and risk management, participating in the development and evaluation of effective risk management policies. Report incidents promptly and conduct thorough investigations as required.
  13. Adhere to all District, State, Federal, and departmental safety and risk management policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of fitness programming, exercise science, and human physiology.
  • Ability to effectively demonstrate fitness techniques and skills.
  • Strong communication skills for instructing adult participants.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
  • Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and creativity.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in addressing customer needs.
  • Ability to manage complaints and resolve issues effectively.

Education and Certifications:

  • Required certifications from recognized organizations such as ACE, ACSM, AFAA, NASM, or NSCA.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain CPR & AED certification within three months of hire.

Additional Considerations:

  • Work schedule may be modified or flexible.
  • Work may involve both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Occasional lifting of light objects (up to 20 lbs.) may be required.
