POSITION SUMMARY
The Youth Engagement Specialist (YES) plays a crucial role within the program team. This position is ideal for individuals seeking to embark on a career focused on youth in educational, athletic, or artistic environments. The primary responsibility is to engage with youth during program hours, while also fulfilling the following duties. The individual in this role will operate under the guidance of the Club Director.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive program calendar that aligns with the organization's mission and objectives.
- Create a detailed schedule of activities for the week and month, ensuring proper documentation of each event.
- Encourage member participation in diverse program activities, providing instruction and constructive feedback to enhance their skills.
- Foster an environment that encourages active participation in programs.
- Assist in registering new members and conducting their orientation.
- Offer guidance and serve as a role model for club members.
- Effectively manage and implement programs and activities for drop-in members.
- Oversee services and activities to ensure member safety and maintain facility standards.
- Continuously evaluate programs to ensure they meet the needs of the members.
- Participate in special events and programs as needed.
- Collaborate with team members to deliver high-quality programs, assisting wherever necessary.
RELATIONSHIPS
- Internal: Maintain close, daily communication with club staff, members, and supervisors to exchange information and address issues.
- External: Engage with community groups, schools, and parents as needed to resolve concerns.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- A minimum of 2 years of combined experience and/or formal training is preferred.
- Understanding of youth development principles.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavioral challenges.
- Capability to design and implement engaging programs for youth.
- Skills in organizing and supervising members in a safe setting.
- Proficiency in handling public interactions.
- Basic computer skills and data entry knowledge.
- Experience in providing educational programs in science and technology for various age groups.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role involves daily interaction with club staff, members, and external organizations to plan and deliver programs. The work environment is primarily office-based, with occasional travel for special events and field trips. Flexibility to work afternoon and evening hours is required, along with the ability to perform physical tasks such as standing for extended periods and lifting objects over 25 lbs.
