Job Summary

The Guidance Center is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Family Therapist to join our team. As a Family Therapist, you will provide mental health treatment and case management services to families in need. This is a full-time position that requires a non-traditional schedule based on the needs of the families served.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide weekly family therapy sessions using the TFCO treatment model, introducing new behavioral coping and parenting skills and practices.
  • Engage primary caregivers and other key participants in active change-oriented treatment.
  • Identify and overcome barriers to engagement.
  • Develop therapeutic relationships with families.
  • Provide direct clinical treatment using methods compatible with the TFCO model.
  • Attend weekly clinical team meetings.
  • Provide after-hours on-call backup for the Team Leader.
  • Provide parents and caregivers with psychoeducation and resources on child and family development.
  • Coordinate services with mental health and medical professionals.
  • Facilitate collateral contacts with representatives from schools and other community organizations.
  • Model effective self-advocacy and assertive communication skills.
  • Advocate on behalf of families to help them meet their needs and achieve their desired level of independence and self-sufficiency.
  • Assist families with basic needs, including food, clothing, shelter, and childcare.
  • Link families with resources available in the community.
  • Provide transportation as needed.
  • Assist families in scheduling psychiatric evaluations and medication reviews.
  • Help identify and eliminate barriers to services.
  • Enhance existing community services and develop new services based on family needs.
  • Assess client satisfaction.
  • Work collaboratively with a team of professionals and paraprofessionals.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with people and organizations in the community.
  • Make referrals to Child Protective Services and Adult Protective Services as needed.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, team meetings, case consultations, and training as needed.
  • Complete clinical documentation in a timely manner and develop, maintain, and review complete case records.
  • Provide individual, family, and group therapy, crisis intervention, case management, and other services as needed.
  • Participate in program evaluation and program development initiatives.
  • Participate in all TFCO training, supervision, and consultation activities.
  • Seek consultation with the Supervisor as needed.
  • Complete 25 hours of program and/or job-specific training on an annual basis.
  • Complete a minimum of 15 hours of billable service hours per week.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
Requirements
  • Master's degree or higher in a relevant field.
  • Current licensure in the State of Michigan as a Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, or Licensed Master's Social Worker.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in the examination, evaluation, and treatment of minors and their families.
  • Non-judgmental approach with cultural competency and sensitivity to the unique needs and diverse experiences of individual families.
  • Ability to engage and maintain therapeutic relationships with families.
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships with other providers.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to assess and intervene within complex family and community systems.
  • Willingness to be flexible, patient, and creative.
  • Favorable driving record and ability to obtain a chauffeur's license within 30 days of hire.
