Job Title: Oncology Assistant

Job Summary:
North Mississippi Health Services is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to fill a nursing job in Verona, Mississippi.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with all admissions, discharges, transfers and changes within the unit utilizing the electronic patient tracking system and electronic medical record.
  • Perform a variety of office, secretarial and other related duties both within and in support of assigned unit.
  • Manage all intake and outbound documents.
  • Perform tasks related to routine patient care within an assigned unit under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Assist with patients plan of care by providing and/or assisting with activities of daily living, including but not limited to personal hygiene, grooming, mobility, and comfort.
  • Effectively and efficiently coordinate daily patient care activities on the nursing unit.
  • Assist nursing staff to better facilitate patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Perform a variety of duties both within and in support of assigned unit as delegated by nursing staff.
  • Order, stock, and replenish unit supplies and necessary equipment in a cost efficient manner.
  • Participate in identifying unit financial responsibility during budget preparation.
  • Assist with keeping unit within its budget restraints.
  • Facilitate and direct communication among visitors, employees, and physicians within assigned unit.
  • Facilitate unit communication including, but not limited to, telephones, intercom system, call light system, computers, etc. Ensure a safe and clean environment for patients and health care team.
  • Welcome visitors to the unit by greeting them, answering questions, giving directions, and referring inquiries as appropriate to nursing staff.
  • Answer telephone and direct calls and inquiries to the appropriate department or staff member.
  • Be polite and friendly in all interactions whether by phone or in person.
  • Provide organized medical records.
  • Assure timely and accurate access to pertinent patient data.
  • Maintain unit-specific records/reports (i.e. unit log books, staffing sheets, etc.).
  • Document care provided using worksheets and/or the electronic medical record.
  • Adhere to professional standards, behavioral standards, and hospital policies as set forth by the organization.
  • Comply with applicable Local/State/Federal policies/procedures/guideline/regulations/laws/statues.
  • Maintain confidentiality by protecting personal healthcare information of all patients.
  • Obtain and maintain CPR certification as set forth by unit and Continuing Education.
  • Possess a working knowledge of computers and software programs.
  • Meet and maintain education requirements upon hire and annually as determined by unit and Continuing Education Department.
  • Possess a working knowledge of office equipment (i.e. telephones, fax machines, scanners, etc.).
  • Have knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Have previous nursing assistant experience preferred but not required.
  • Be able to recognize changes and abnormalities in the patients condition and report to appropriate staff.
