We are seeking an Advanced Practitioner to join our team in Trauma Surgery. As an Advanced Practitioner, you will work autonomously and in collaboration with physicians to diagnose, treat, and manage patients. You will serve as a healthcare resource provider, patient advocate, and interdisciplinary consultant with the healthcare team.
Job Description:
- Demonstrate Clinical Competency: Provide high-quality patient care by demonstrating clinical competency and accountability in care for patients as identified in the unit's Scope of Care.
- Maintain Competency: Maintain expertise in performing clinical practice for patients in various stages of life.
- Assess Patient Status: Assess the physical and psychosocial status of patients through interview, health history, physical examinations, and diagnostic studies.
- Coordinate Care: Recognize deviations from normal assessment and coordinate care with physicians.
- Write Prescriptions: Write prescriptions and initiate laboratory, radiology, and diagnostic studies as indicated.
- Evaluate Patient Response: Evaluate and monitor patient response to health and disease and provide education and counseling as necessary.
- Initiate Therapeutic Plans: Initiate actions to facilitate implementation of therapeutic plans consistent with ongoing healthcare needs of patients.
- Determine Eligibility: Determine eligibility of patients for entry into clinical trials as appropriate.
- Triage Calls: Triage phone calls from outpatients and manage patient care problems.
- Request Consultation: Request written consultation from physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure quality patient care.
- Culturally Sensitive Care: Value ethnic and cultural differences in treatment and planning of care.
- Maintain Quality Care: Demonstrate competence in practice outlines with Standard Care Arrangement (SCA) using methods of quality care review, periodic peer review, and clinical outcomes evaluations.
- Fills SCA: Fill SCA with sponsoring physician, Medical Staff Office, and reviews and renews periodically.
- Preventative Health Services: Maintain provision of preventative health services (e.g., screening, risk assessment, immunizations, etc.).
- Daily Multidisciplinary Rounds: Conduct or participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds and ensure quality care for assigned patients.
- Patient Education: Provide education to patients, families, and staff about the disease process and treatment.
- Initiates/Discharge Planning: Initiate/discharge-planning needs to patients/social workers in a timely manner.
- Quality Improvement: Participate in interdisciplinary continuous quality improvement in patient care.
- Establish Goals/Objectives: Establish goals and objectives for their area in congruence with department's goals and objectives.
- Resource Utilization: Indirectly influence the budgetary performance of the organization by appropriate utilization of resources, infection control principles, and customer satisfaction.
- Patient Satisfaction: Directly influence patient satisfaction by delivering patient healthcare services.
- Patient Safety: Directly influence patient safety through compliance of National Patient Safety Goals set forth by accrediting body.
- Standard Practice: Practice within normal standards specific to specialty, for Nurse Practitioners/Physician Assistants and as identified in the Revised Code and Ohio Administrative Code.
- Research Participation: Conduct/participate in divisional/institutional research as opportunities arise.
- Clinical Guidelines Development: Assist with the development of Clinical Practice Guidelines as appropriate.
- Mentorship: Act as a mentor/role model for staff as well as a resource person for nurses, medical assistants, and/or other ancillary staff.
- Professional Standards: Maintain professional standards of attendance, appearance, demeanor, and company values. Assumes responsibility and accountability of own actions, seeks out supervision as necessary.
- Teamwork: Promote spirit of teamwork through effective communication, cooperation, and collaboration.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program or Physician Assistant Program; Master's Degree in appropriate field.
- Certifications/Licensure:
- State of Ohio Licensure-Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant.
- National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
- COA from the Board of Nursing to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse or Ohio State Medical Board to practice as a Physician Assistant.
- BLS Certified.
- Eligible to obtain and/or maintain Certificate to Prescribe/DEA.

Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work nights only, holidays, and weekends.
- Tolerates busy environment that requires constant interaction with patients, employees, students, residents, and physicians.
- Requires prolonged walking and standing. Occasional lifting of patients sometimes over 200 pounds.
- Occasional carrying of items weighing up to 30 pounds required.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range and manual dexterity.
- Requires the ability to operate various types of office equipment, including but not limited to: Personal computer, fax machines, copiers, telephones.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment on a daily basis.
- Must be able to work effectively both with internal and external customers in stressful situations.
