Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Senior Residential Unit Specialist to join our team at the Agency for Persons with Disabilities. As a Senior Residential Unit Specialist, you will be responsible for providing exceptional care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities in a secure forensic setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and evaluate the behaviors of individual residents, providing feedback to the treatment team to ensure consistent implementation of behavioral programs.
  • Function as a team leader, mentoring new employees and assisting in training staff on new policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Implement and deploy behavioral programs for each resident in a fair and impartial manner, adhering to all policies and maintaining accurate records.
  • Document all activities associated with residents in chronological order, notifying supervisors of any unusual issues or concerns.
  • Prepare assignment sheets and provide personal care, supervision, escort, training, and treatment for residents.
  • Perform 1-to-1 specials, ensuring accurate documentation and working with individual residents as assigned.
  • Provide assistance to the treatment team in deploying training, instruction, recreational, and therapeutic interventions to residents.
  • Inform supervisors of current operating conditions on the ward/unit through reports and conferences.
  • Consult with other departments to solve resident problems.
  • Make daily rounds of the assigned wards or units, informing supervisors on the well-being of residents and facility conditions.
  • Monitor unit/ward for safety and sanitation issues, reporting findings to supervisors/management.
  • Ensure accurate completion and submission of essential documents to supervisors.
  • Complete required training and maintain agency-approved crisis prevention and intervention program certification.
  • Maintain timesheets, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
  • One year's experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or mental health issues in a residential setting.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Certification in the agency-approved crisis prevention and intervention program at the advanced level.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and/or resident information.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and establish effective working relationships with residents and staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to identify and give attention to understaffed wards or units and emergency situations.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
Work Environment

The Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program operates on the campus of Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee and at Sunland in Marianna under the auspices of The State of Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD). The program is dedicated to empowering persons with developmental disabilities charged with a felony crime to acquire the skills and support that will prepare them for success in their future environments.
