The Registered Nurse (RN) operates under the guidance of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and overseeing patient care within the nursing unit/department, adhering to established protocols and procedures. The RN also supervises non-RN staff on the designated unit and, when in a leadership capacity, delegates and oversees unit activities. Flexibility to work across various nursing units may be required based on staffing and patient needs. Additional responsibilities may be assigned to uphold exceptional service standards.

Key Responsibilities
- 1. Continuously assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients throughout their care journey.
- 2. Develops, communicates, and documents personalized care plans that address specific patient issues and interventions to achieve optimal outcomes, involving patients, families, and the healthcare team in the process.
- 3. Implements and coordinates care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- 4. Evaluates the effectiveness of care plans, patient responses, and readiness for discharge, revising plans as necessary and making referrals when appropriate.

- 6. Serves as a mentor to new staff members.
- 7. Takes on charge nurse responsibilities as needed.
- 8. Meets performance expectations in Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Professional Development as outlined in performance evaluations.
- 9. Performs additional duties as assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the department/unit.
- 10. Demonstrates proficiency in the insertion and maintenance of neonatal peripheral intravenous lines, obtaining neonatal lab samples, and managing central intravenous lines.
- 11. Exhibits competency in the care of neonates requiring respiratory support, including suctioning and chest physiotherapy.
- 12. Shows expertise in the initial care and stabilization of neonates during high-risk deliveries.
- 13. Demonstrates competency when acting as the RN for neonatal transport.
- 14. Incorporates principles of developmentally supportive and family-centered care into practice.
- 15. Promotes breastfeeding in the NICU through support, instruction, and collaboration with Lactation Consultants when necessary.
Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred. Proficient in utilizing computer software, including electronic patient records, and capable of conducting internet research for patient care literature.
Experience: Recent experience in level 2 or 3 NICU preferred.
Licensure: Valid Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
Special Skills: BLS certification required. NRP certification must be obtained within six months of hire. NICU certification is required within two years following orientation completion.
