Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Recreational Therapist I to join our team at Western Massachusetts Hospital. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized therapeutic recreation programs for patients with a variety of chronic diseases and complicated medical conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, implement, and facilitate various individual and group recreational activities to promote physical, social, mental, and spiritual well-being.
  • Provide clinical training and direction to recreation assistants and collaborate with hospital staff to discuss program activities and resolve problems.
  • Develop and maintain accurate records and documentation to develop, implement, and modify treatment programs and plans of care.
  • Order and maintain recreational supplies and equipment to ensure their availability and safety for patient use.
  • Attend professional meetings, seminars, and conferences to maintain current knowledge of recreation therapy and best practices.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of principles, theory, practice, and terminology of Therapeutic Recreation.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and document concisely to develop ideas in logical sequence.
  • Capacity to work effectively as a member of the interdisciplinary team and establish rapport with patients and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Skilled in exercising discretion in handling confidential information and working with special populations.
  • Ability to work with state vehicles and buses in a safe manner.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CTRS certification and one-year experience in a healthcare facility.
  • High degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making to achieve objectives.
  • Thoroughness, independence, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
