Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deaf or Hard of Hearing Mentor to join our team at the Christina School District. As a Deaf or Hard of Hearing Mentor, you will be responsible for demonstrating and teaching natural communication and language strategies to parents and family members in a home-based, family-centered setting.
Responsibilities:
- Teach communication strategies to parents/guardians and family members in home-based visits
- Share experiences growing up as a Deaf or Hard of Hearing person
- Support families in making connections within the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community
- Focus on five areas during home visits: Language/communication, making the child's world accessible, Deaf culture, literacy, and building community
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Previous experience in teaching language to families of children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing or previous successful experience as a Deaf Mentor
- Must be a person who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Ability to support families from diverse backgrounds
- Effective interpersonal skills in written and receptive/expressive communications
- Ability to use an interactive data management system
- Work independently and productively, with a willingness to accept supervision and feedback
- Maintain confidentiality
