Role Overview:
The Tax Information Reporting (TIR) division is tasked with comprehensive client tax activities, which include validating client tax certifications, managing withholding, and ensuring accurate information reporting in compliance with the Internal Revenue Service, Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), and Common Reporting Standard (CRS) regulations. This role will lead and oversee the centralized TIR team within Citi's Chief Operating Office, driving the strategic agenda for Tax Information Reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of over 30 tax information reporting professionals across multiple Citi Service Centers globally.
- Manage tax information reporting processes related to products from various core businesses, with a primary focus on U.S. Personal Banking.
- Act as a recognized subject matter expert, designing efficient processes and influencing necessary organizational changes to ensure compliance.
- Develop and implement policies and controls to guarantee adherence to U.S. Information Reporting and FATCA/CRS requirements.
- Provide timely feedback and reporting to stakeholders, co-chairing service delivery and tax risk forums.
- Drive process reviews and reengineering initiatives to enhance efficiency and maintain a robust control framework.
- Support audit interactions with regulatory bodies and internal audit teams.
- Lead technology strategy initiatives to support Tax Information Reporting requirements.
- Oversee risk and control environments, including control design and issue management.
- Foster employee engagement and talent management initiatives.
- Engage with senior business partners on new business opportunities and product approvals.
- Adhere to budgetary and productivity goals.
Qualifications:
- Over 10 years of leadership experience in U.S. tax information reporting and a minimum of 12 years in the financial services sector.
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. tax information reporting rules and Qualified Intermediary IRS regime.
- Strong understanding of IRS Forms W-9, W-8, and their requirements, as well as Forms 1098, 1099 series, and 1042-S.
- Familiarity with FATCA regulations and Common Reporting Standard (CRS) reporting requirements.
- Exceptional relationship management and communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
- Proven ability to design and implement efficient processes and drive organizational change.
- Project management experience with a focus on leading migrations and transitions.
- Proficient in standard desktop technology and advanced Office skills.
- Experience managing senior-level audit interactions and providing complex tax advisory support.
- Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams and enhance employee engagement.
