Position Overview

As a crucial member of the healthcare team, the Medical Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the healthcare provider, focusing on patient evaluation and care while ensuring accurate documentation. This role requires a foundational understanding of both specialty and primary care, enabling the assistant to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care effectively. The Medical Assistant will coordinate care to guarantee that patients receive high-quality, compassionate services.

Key Responsibilities

(30%) Manage incoming calls, schedule urgent appointments, and relay test results. Provide support and direction to patients regarding consultations, testing, and insurance pre-certifications.

(30%) Welcome patients and their families, perform essential pre-examination tasks such as taking vital signs, and accurately document both objective and subjective data regarding the patient's condition. Maintain patient records through tasks like medication reconciliation and secure messaging.

(20%) Assist healthcare providers during examinations and medical procedures.

(20%) Prepare and sanitize the patient care area, set up necessary equipment, and ensure cleanliness post-procedure. Dispose of contaminated materials and sterilize medical instruments.

Additional Duties

Conduct comprehensive patient assessments as per the practice's scope. Perform patient care tasks, including administering injections, minor dressing changes, and blood specimen collection. In certain practices, demonstrate proficiency in assisting with procedures such as EKGs and other diagnostic tests.

Maintain a safe and clean environment for both patients and colleagues. Travel to satellite clinics may be required.

Utilize necessary computer systems in the office environment, including electronic medical records and practice management software. Exhibit critical thinking skills in patient management.

Ensure patient confidentiality and uphold their rights in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Perform clerical tasks as needed, including filing insurance forms and updating medical records.

Order medical supplies and maintain accurate documentation and coding in patient records as per policy. Participate in annual quality reviews as necessary.

Provide care that meets the specific needs of the patient population served, as evidenced by observation and feedback.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

Certifications: BLS - Basic Life Support required within three months of hire. Medical Assistant certification is mandatory.

Experience: Strong interpersonal skills are essential for effective communication with diverse individuals. Prior experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Ability to handle stressful situations, including those involving public contact. Must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment and moving freely within the facility. Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens may occur.
