Position Summary

The Yard Manager is accountable for overseeing daily terminal operations, ensuring a secure and efficient work environment that aligns with both APS East Coast Inc. and customer expectations. This role involves equipment maintenance, acting as the onsite safety representative, and collaborating with the safety coordinator to uphold company policies during daily activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all equipment is in optimal condition.
  • Manage and enhance customer relations.
  • Assist in investigations of accidents and incidents.
  • Ensure compliance with shipping line policies.
  • Provide cargo handling quotes.
  • Direct, train, and mentor yard personnel.
  • Oversee daily staffing of the workforce.
  • Possess strong knowledge of cargo handling and rigging.

Required Competencies

  • Ability to mediate conflicts effectively.
  • Strong multitasking abilities.
  • Proficient mathematical skills.
  • Project management capabilities.
  • Experience with excavation and heavy handling equipment.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role includes direct oversight of staff.

Work Environment

The position requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Physical Demands

Moderate physical activity is required, involving daily tasks of an administrative or technical nature, with sufficient manual dexterity to handle various items.

Position Type

This is a full-time role, primarily Monday through Friday, with potential for overtime.

Travel Requirements

Minimal overnight travel may be necessary.

Education and Experience

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience in a related field is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Intermediate proficiency in computer operations and software applications is advantageous.

Certifications

Eligibility to obtain a TWIC badge is required.
