Advanced Surgical Technologist II

Position Overview

Experienced Surgical Technologists are eligible for a substantial Sign-On Bonus, with a focus on those with CVOR expertise. For candidates without CVOR experience, a competitive Sign-On Bonus is also available.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must be Certified Surgical Technologists. New graduates and former employees with a minimum of three months' separation from MaineHealth are welcome to apply. Current employees are not eligible for this position.

Role Summary
The Surgical Technologist Level II fulfills all requirements of a Level I Surgical Technologist. This role requires a high degree of independence and self-direction to ensure all necessary preparations are in place for surgical procedures.

Maintaining national certification is essential. The position also involves teaching responsibilities for staff and students.

Required Qualifications
Education:

Licensure/Certifications:
Certification must be obtained within three months of employment or as determined by the Department Director.

Experience:
A minimum of one year of surgical technology experience is required for this level.

Proficiency with various surgical equipment is essential, including but not limited to: cell saver, laser systems, ultradrive, CUSA, Steris, autoclaves, cautery devices, laparoscopic video systems, and endoscopic towers. Familiarity with the contents of multiple specialty instrument trays is also necessary.

The candidate must demonstrate the technical skills and knowledge required to perform core and specialty surgical procedures across various services.

- Scheduled general surgeries
- Cardiac surgeries
- Neurosurgeries
- Pediatric surgeries
- Trauma surgeries
- Gynecological surgeries
- Urological surgeries
- Vascular surgeries
- Orthopedic surgeries
- Common emergency procedures

Knowledge of aseptic techniques and operating room standards is required, typically acquired through completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program.

Strong interpersonal skills are necessary for effective collaboration with team members.

Ability to stand for extended periods and to assist in the movement and positioning of patients and equipment is essential.

Attention to detail and adaptability to changing assignments are crucial for success in this role.
