Job Overview:
The Visual News Specialist is tasked with the essential role of capturing and editing video content for news broadcasts, ensuring high-quality storytelling through visual media.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Professionally and safely set up, operate, and dismantle ENG video equipment
• Serve as a photojournalist by covering news stories, conducting interviews, and collecting information for broadcast
• Communicate story details to producers, reporters, or anchors for script development
• Operate news vehicles in compliance with state regulations and company guidelines
• Maintain regular communication with station management and producers regarding the progress of assigned stories
• Contribute to the generation of story ideas
• Uphold a professional appearance in public settings
• Create engaging news content across various platforms including on-air, online, and social media
• Collaborate with anchors, producers, and management to align with the brand identity of Gray Television, Inc.
• Demonstrate comfort in live and breaking news scenarios
• Be prepared to step in at short notice when required
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management
Qualifications:
• A minimum of years of experience in an ENG news environment
• A college degree in journalism or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
• Familiarity with basic newsroom operations
• A creative perspective that allows for the capture of compelling video that enhances news narratives
• Basic understanding of journalism ethics, libel, and slander laws
• Strong communication skills for effective interaction with the public and colleagues
• Proficiency in operating ENG photography and editing tools
• Ability to navigate the newsroom computer system
• Experience with EDIUS and Bitcentral for story editing when assigned
• Knowledge of social media and multi-platform journalism
• A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
