Composite and Plastic Fabrication Specialist

This role is for an Air Reserve Technician (ART) within the Environmental Protection Agency. ARTs are integral members of the civil service and enjoy comprehensive benefits associated with Federal employment.
As an ART, you will maintain active membership in your assigned Air Force Reserve unit, typically participating in military training one weekend each month.
Qualifications:
Applicants will be assessed based on the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4300 PLIABLE MATERIALS WORK FAMILY. While specific experience duration is not mandatory for most blue-collar roles, candidates must meet any outlined screen-out criteria and demonstrate through their experience and training the requisite knowledge and skills necessary for the position.
Emphasis is placed on the quality of experience rather than the length of time.
The primary screen-out element for this position is the capability to perform the duties of a Composite/Plastic Fabricator with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate knowledge of materials, techniques, practices, and procedures related to sheet metal and composite structural tasks to support aircraft and equipment maintenance.
- Understand regulations, procedures, and policies pertinent to records maintenance and documentation.
- Exhibit skill in layout and pattern development, including geometric projection and triangulation.
- Ability to perform the tasks of a structural/plastics fabricator without requiring excessive supervision.
- Skill in assembling, fabricating, and repairing aircraft structural components and materials.
- Maintain professional and cooperative interactions with colleagues and various sections within the organization.
Additional Information:
The selected candidate must obtain and sustain a SECRET security clearance. There may be requirements to travel via military or commercial aircraft for temporary duty assignments away from the regular duty station.
Scheduled and unscheduled overtime may be necessary to meet workload demands. As an ART, you will be expected to adhere to Air Force Reserve requirements.
Access to special programs for specific weapon systems (e.g., F-22, B-2, or F-35) may be required.
Driving a motor vehicle may be part of the job responsibilities, and passing a physical examination to wear respiratory protection equipment is mandatory.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
The role involves extended periods of physical exertion, including prolonged standing and handling power tools overhead, which may lead to strain due to limited movement.
Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions.
Experience Considerations:
Credit will be given for relevant unpaid or part-time work experience, including volunteer roles through National Service Programs.
