Position Summary

The selected candidate will become an integral part of our accomplished safety team, reporting directly to the Safety Manager. A minimum of three years of safety experience is essential. Key responsibilities include facilitating safety training sessions, conducting site evaluations, performing documentation audits, investigating accidents and incidents, and analyzing safety statistics. The ability to foster collaborative relationships and communicate effectively with all levels of management and field personnel is crucial, alongside coaching, enforcing, and enhancing safety standards. Candidates with demonstrated safety professionalism (such as relevant memberships or certifications), basic Spanish language skills, and field experience outside of safety will be highly regarded.

Experience with Fleet Management and familiarity with the CDL/DOT regulations is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the execution and management of the Project Safety Program, including the formulation of site-specific safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct training sessions, including new hire safety orientations and regular safety meetings.
  • Perform safety inspections and audits on projects, effectively communicating identified risks, safety objectives, and expectations to both craft and management personnel.
  • Assist in monitoring project compliance with safety regulations.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of regulatory record-keeping requirements and safety administrative processes.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

General: To succeed in this role, candidates must be capable of fulfilling each responsibility satisfactorily. Education and Experience: This role is an entry-level position within the Construction Safety sector. A bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field is required. Familiarity with construction safety standards and current Federal and OSHA regulations is preferred. Practical field experience in Heavy Highway and Bridge Construction, Crane Operations, Asphalt Plant operations, and various grading and utility projects is desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint, and database management is essential. Strong writing and communication skills are required. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are mandatory. Certification as a Safety Professional is a plus.

Physical Requirements: The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Safety Engineer to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:

  • Ability to work in diverse environments, including varying weather conditions and terrains.
  • Regularly required to sit and/or stand for a standard work shift of at least eight hours.
  • Occasional requirements to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.
  • Ability to frequently lift at least 25 pounds and carry up to 15 pounds.
  • Specific vision capabilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Continuous mental focus is necessary to complete tasks efficiently.

Work Environment: The characteristics of the work environment described below are representative of those encountered by a Safety Engineer while performing essential functions:

  • Work is conducted both indoors (office environment) and outdoors (construction and asphalt sites).
  • Must be able to perform duties in various work environments, including a range of weather conditions and terrains.
