Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Pool Safety Specialist to join our team at the YMCA of Greater Boston. As a key member of our Aquatic Emergency Response Team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of all pool patrons and enforcing pool rules to prevent emergencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prevent Emergencies: Continuously scan the pool area to identify potential hazards and take proactive measures to prevent accidents.
  • Recognize and Respond to Emergencies: Immediately address any emergency or potential incident, activating the branch and pool EAP as needed.
  • Perform Assists and Rescues: Provide assistance or perform rescues as necessary, using your knowledge of CPR, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen procedures.
  • Complete Incident Reports: Accurately and thoroughly document any incidents or near-misses, ensuring timely and effective reporting.
  • Enforce Pool Rules: Consistently enforce pool rules and regulations, handling issues professionally and maintaining a safe and clean pool environment.
  • Communicate Effectively: Maintain clear and consistent communication with supervisors, staff, and patrons, ensuring a positive and safe experience for all.
  • Participate in Training and Drills: Regularly participate in branch safety and quality drills, attending all required monthly and yearly in-service trainings.
  • Adhere to YMCA Policies: Familiarize yourself with and adhere to all YMCA policies and procedures, maintaining a professional image and manner consistent with our mission and goals.
Requirements
  • Age: At least 16 years old.
  • Physical Demands: Physically and verbally able to interact with members and staff, with the ability to scan the pool visually, sit or stand for extended periods, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Work Environment: Moderate to high noise level, with varying shifts including early mornings, nights, and weekends.
Training and Certifications
  • Child Abuse Prevention: Complete within the first four weeks of employment.
  • Respect in the Workplace: Sexual Harassment Prevention training.
  • The Professional Lifeguard: Certification required.
  • CPR, First Aid, O2: Certification required.
  • YMCA Lifeguarding: Certification required.
