POSITION SUMMARY:

The Custodial Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of general cleaning and maintenance tasks in accordance with established departmental procedures. This role includes providing support for events, participating in seasonal cleaning initiatives, assisting with furniture relocations, and fulfilling other departmental and institutional needs aligned with the core responsibilities of the position.

The Custodial Specialist operates independently in maintaining and caring for assigned campus facilities while also collaborating with team members on collective tasks. Proactive thinking and action are essential in ensuring the upkeep of the assigned buildings. Participation in an on-call rotation and snow removal duties is required, and this position is classified as essential personnel.

Custodians are expected to maintain current certifications necessary for their job functions, as supported by Hampshire College. A pre-employment physical, including a lift test, is a prerequisite for this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in floor care.
  • At least one year of relevant work experience is preferred, though informal experiences such as volunteering or casual work may be considered.

EDUCATIONAL AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • No formal educational qualifications are mandated.
  • Alternative experiences, including military service, volunteering, and activism, may be recognized as equivalent qualifications.

This position plays a vital role in supporting both student and community services, and the incumbent is expected to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced organizational environment with evolving responsibilities. Collaboration with fellow facilities staff and various departments is essential to achieve departmental objectives and advance the mission of the facilities team.
