Job Description

The Licensed Counselor will coordinate the provision of counseling and social services in a public-school setting, to students and their families facing obstacles to academic and personal success.

Responsibilities
  1. Complete intake and conduct initial assessment with referred students and their parent or guardian.
  2. Complete individual assessments and treatment plans to address mental health or emotional needs of clients.
  3. Communicate with appropriate CIS and school staff on a regular basis to seek input and report on student progress, case status, and counseling needs.
  4. Provide individual and group counseling to address mental health or emotional needs with the goal to improve client well-being.
  5. Implement counseling strategies and intervention techniques appropriate to client needs.
  6. Provide crisis intervention during critical situations.
  7. Attain client cases from multiple school sites to meet grant requirements.
  8. Develop an aftercare plan for students and families in coordination with the CIS staff and/or school staff.
  9. Collaborate with CIS staff and school staff to provide referrals on behalf of clients for ongoing support and mental health needs and ensure new or ongoing family and basic needs are addressed.
  10. Provide training and education relevant to emotional and mental health.
  11. Attend team meetings with assigned district or school personnel to review case status reports, discuss treatment plans, case consultation, and address programmatic concerns.
  12. Coordinate and oversee interns assigned per university requirements.
  13. Provide intern orientation regarding CIS program policies and school-based service provision.
  14. Complete paperwork required for grant compliance.
  15. Maintain sign-in sheets for services, confidential data, and files in accordance with CIS policy and procedures and licensure requirements.
  16. Document services from sign-in sheets in the CIS-approved data entry system.
  17. Implement, manage, and report on grants.
  18. Monitor and document student progress toward goals.
  19. Evaluate program effectiveness.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in a social work, counseling, clinical mental health, psychology, or equivalent.
  • Advanced license LPC, LMFT, or LCSW is required.
  • Four years of related experience in the field (including graduate internship hours).
  • Experience with at-risk populations and cross-cultural environments.
  • Ability to set priorities and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to articulate program goals in a public setting.
  • A willingness to follow the philosophy of CIS and operate as a team player.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual ability in Spanish and English highly preferred.
  • Experience working with trauma and youth highly preferred.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications/Requirements
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background and fingerprint check.
