Job Summary
The Correctional Supervising Cook is responsible for supervising and training staff and inmate-workers responsible for preparing meals for patients in a correctional health care facility. The successful candidate will oversee the preparation and dispensing of therapeutic diets per physician orders, ensure staff and inmate-workers follow all departmental and institutional policies and procedures, and maintain order and supervise the conduct of inmates and protect and maintain the safety of persons and property.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and train staff and inmate-workers responsible for preparing meals for patients in a correctional health care facility.
- Oversee the preparation and dispensing of therapeutic diets per physician orders.
- Ensure staff and inmate-workers follow all departmental and institutional policies and procedures.
- Maintain order and supervise the conduct of inmates and protect and maintain the safety of persons and property.
Requirements
- One year of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Cook Specialist II (Correctional Facility) or a Cook Specialist II.
- Or two years of experience in a supervisory capacity over cooks and other food service workers with responsibility for supervising and assisting with the preparation, cooking, and serving of various food items.
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
Working Conditions
- Travel is required.

- Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment.
- Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
