Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Psychiatric/DD Nurse to join our team. As a Psychiatric/DD Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to residents with psychiatric and developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assume primary nursing responsibility for assigned residents, including nursing treatment planning, verification and review of physician orders, chart audits, self-medication plans, and human sexuality programs.
  • Participate in related meetings as required by Supervisor and communicate medical information to parents/guardians when appropriate.
  • Fills in for psychiatric meetings as necessary and works with physicians on a rotating basis, including setting up charts and verifying orders written from physician consults.
  • Process physician orders, enter physician's orders into computerized records, and communicate change of resident status to appropriate interdisciplinary team members.
  • Schedule follow-up care of residents with physicians as needed and communicate medical appointments to appropriate personnel.
  • Assess and review preventative health screening forms and ensure quarterly physical exams are completed on residents.
  • Assist in feeding, grooming, and self-care, and evaluate client and staff injuries and administer and record first aid as necessary.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, including first aid, CPR, and psychotropic emergencies, and assist in decision-making in supervisor's absence.
  • Monitor health care charts on living areas to ensure proper follow-up and continuity of health care.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate client self-medication programs and provide health teaching and direction to family, staff, and clients as directed.
  • Assist in orienting and training new staff, conduct and participate in In-Service training sessions, and provide clinical oversight to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs).

Qualifications

Requires current license as a registered professional nurse in the state of Ohio as issued by the Board of Nursing per Section of Revised Code.
