- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic health problems within the specialty area of practice.
- Collaborate and consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals in the area of clinical expertise.
- Develop educational systems and strategies for teaching patients, families, and staff on topics related to the area of expertise.
- Mentor graduate students in aspects of advanced practice.
- Actively participate in and/or conduct research pertinent to the area of expertise.
- Comprehensive appraisals of patients' health status by taking health histories and performing physical examinations in the specialty area.
- Provide primary prevention strategies and management of stable health problems.
- Provide specialty care to assigned patients, including both stable and unstable chronic health problems.
- Establish diagnoses for common short-term or chronic health conditions.
- Prescribe medications, diet, supplies, prosthetic devices, and other home health aides or medication according to clinical privileges.
- Order and interpret appropriate laboratory tests, x-rays, electrocardiograms, and diagnostic procedures specified in clinical privileges.
