  • Supports patients by formulating and dispensing medications; providing drug-related information to a collaborative healthcare team; overseeing patient medication regimens; suggesting alternative therapies when necessary.

  • By analyzing and interpreting physician directives
* reviewing patient health records

* confirming that the prescribed dosage is appropriate based on age, weight, and lab results

* reconciling medications with the patient's home medication list

* and identifying potential therapeutic conflicts.

  • MEDICATION DISPENSATION
  • By compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
  • Employs advanced technology to enhance the efficiency and safety of medication delivery to patients.
  • MEDICATION MONITORING
  • By supervising drug therapies
* adhering to therapeutic adjustments, and recommending necessary interventions.

  • Documents all medication-related interventions with prescribers, provides necessary information to physicians, and follows up to ensure that intervention recommendations have been acknowledged by the prescribing doctor.
  • MEETS PHARMACY OPERATIONAL STANDARDS
  • By organizing and directing the workflow of pharmacy technicians
* verifying their preparation and labeling of medications

* checking order entries, charges, inspections, and other relevant tasks.

  • PROVIDES DRUG INFORMATION
  • By addressing inquiries and requests from healthcare professionals
* counseling patients on their medication therapies, and advising the prescriber if any irregularities or safety issues arise that need to be communicated to the responsible physician.

  • Utilizes technology to access clinical data to enhance clinical recommendations.
  • ENHANCES STAFF PHARMACOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE
  • By engaging in clinical programs
* training pharmacy staff, students, interns, externs, residents, and healthcare professionals.

  • ADHERES TO STATE AND FEDERAL DRUG REGULATIONS AS SET FORTH BY THE STATE BOARD OF PHARMACY, THE DRUG ENFORCEMENT ADMINISTRATION, THE FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION, AND OTHER RELEVANT REGULATORY AGENCIES
  • By monitoring nursing unit inspections
* maintaining records for controlled substances

* removing expired and damaged medications from the pharmacy inventory

* supervising the performance of support staff

* maintaining current licensure

* reviewing existing and new legislation

* anticipating regulatory changes

* advising management on necessary actions.

  • ENSURES PATIENT AND TECHNICIAN SAFETY
  • By following infection-control protocols and ensuring that every medication dispensed is for the correct patient, at the appropriate dosage, and delivered promptly.

  • QUALIFICATIONS
